Mofokeng scores on Europa League debut as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise win away
Relebohile Mofokeng marked his UEFA Europa League debut with a goal as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise secured their first away victory in the league phase at Viktoria Plzen on Thursday.
The 21-year-old opened the scoring after only 17 minutes, finishing superbly after receiving a long pass from the back. The goal continued the winger’s impressive start since joining the Belgian Jupiler Pro League side.
Mofokeng was handed consecutive starts for the first time and made an immediate impact in an away fixture in the Czech Republic. Mateo Biondic doubled Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s advantage before half-time.
Defender Ondrej Kricfalusi added a third in the 59th minute, putting the visitors firmly in control. Mofokeng was substituted after 63 minutes, with his side completing a comfortable victory.
His performance earned him an 8.0 rating from Sofascore and further underlined his growing influence in European competition.
The former Orlando Pirates winger has now scored four goals in eight matches for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
