Modou Sougou has experienced a resurgence in form since joining Evian TG. The Senegalese striker has been afforded more playing time in Haute-Savoie and has made the most of it. On loan from Marseille, Sougou has already netted 4 goals in 18 Ligue 1 matches this season with Evian TG, a stark improvement from his time at OM where he failed to score in 14 appearances last season.
Having struggled to establish himself at Marseille since his arrival in France in 2013 from the Romanian club Cluj, Sougou is now thriving at his new club. Speaking to beIN Sports, Sougou reflected on his loan move and outlined his ambitions.
“Being loaned without a purchase option is a strong signal from Marseille. I understand that football moves very quickly, and the present is more important. It’s up to me to prove what I am capable of with Evian. I need to adapt to French football. The most important thing is to focus with Evian. If the club maintains its status, it will be good. As for Marseille, I’m uncertain about my future. I know I can establish myself there because I have the quality and confidence. The club’s leaders know what I’m capable of, and they’re counting on me too. I was in a substitute role, and I spoke with Anigo. He advised me that the best thing for me was to stay in France, acclimatize to French football, and for them to see me play every weekend. He chose Evian for me, where I can work in peace. It’s better to be a starter in a less high-profile club than to be a substitute in a big club.”
