Modibo Sagnan: Caykur Rizespor re-sign Montpellier centre-back on permanent deal
Caykur Rizespor have re-signed Modibo Sagnan from Montpellier on a permanent deal after the defenders successful loan spell in the Turkish Super Lig. The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a contract with the Black Sea club until 30 June 2028.
Sagnan spent last season on loan at Rizespor from Montpellier, making 20 league appearances and scoring once in the Super Lig. His performances in Turkey have now been rewarded with a long-term agreement that keeps him at the club for the next two seasons.
Born in Saint-Denis and eligible for both Mali and France, the left-footed defender brings significant top-flight experience to Rizespors back line. He has previously played in Ligue 1, LaLiga, the Eredivisie and Portugals top division, as well as featuring in the Europa League, building a profile as a centre-back accustomed to competing across Europes major leagues.
Sagnan joined Montpellier from Utrecht in February 2024, having earlier moved from Real Sociedad to the Dutch side after a series of loans, including spells at Tondela and CD Mirandes. He was part of the Real Sociedad squad that lifted the Copa del Rey in the 2019-20 season, providing him with silverware at an early stage of his career.
Across his senior career, Sagnan has accumulated more than 150 league appearances in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and Turkey, contributing goals from defence in several of those competitions. His return to Caykur Rizespor is now confirmed on a permanent basis through to the summer of 2028.
