San Jose secured the victory with a free kick from Bernardez, which maneuvered through the legs of several defenders and ultimately deceived the opposing goalkeeper, Saunders, during added time (90+4). The Los Angeles Galaxy will now have to make a comeback in the next Wednesday match in San José to have a chance at reaching the conference final.
The winner of this matchup will go on to face either Real Salt Lake or the Seattle Sounders in the conference final. The first leg of their encounter ended in a draw (0-0).
