Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo on Sunday, extending their failure to win on the road in Serie A and matching a record that had not been seen for more than a quarter of a century.
The result came in the sixth round of the season after Milan surrendered a lead they had taken in the second half. According to Opta, they have now drawn three of their first four away league matches this campaign.
It is the first time Milan have recorded that sequence since the 1999-2000 season, when Alberto Zaccheroni was manager. On that occasion, the team’s first four away fixtures produced one win and three draws.
Milan looked on course to claim all three points at Sassuolo after Adrien Rabiot opened the scoring in the 63rd minute. The midfielder struck powerfully from a tight angle to put the visitors ahead.
Sassuolo responded five minutes later. Cas Odenthal followed up inside the penalty area after a corner to level the match and ensure the points were shared.
The draw leaves Milan with 12 points from six matches and in fourth place in the Serie A table. Sassuolo have eight points and sit 10th.
