Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has indicated that young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is a strong candidate to replace Bukayo Saka on the right wing following Saka’s injury.
Both Saka and Nwaneri were born in England to Nigerian parents. Saka sustained the injury during Arsenal’s commanding 5-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
23-year-old Saka, who plays a crucial role in Arsenal’s pursuit of the title, is likely to be sidelined for several weeks due to his injury.
This unfortunate development has raised concerns for the team’s immediate future.
Nwaneri, just 17 years old, has made an impact since the Premier League season began, showcasing remarkable talent, creativity, and a knack for scoring. He has netted four goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
Ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming match against Ipswich Town, Arteta acknowledged the blow of losing Saka but expressed faith in his team’s depth.
“Gabby has played there, Ethan has played there, Leo can play there in relation to how that unit moves,”Arteta was quoted as saying by Arsenal’s official website.
“Kai can play there, asking him different things. So, We’ll see, try to speak to them as well and understand how they feel about it.”
