Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that midfielder Thomas Partey could remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond this season, amid growing speculation about the Ghana international’s future.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Arteta revealed that discussions are currently taking place regarding a possible contract extension for Partey, whose current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2026.
The Spanish coach appeared confident that the club’s intentions are aligned with retaining the experienced midfielder, who has been linked with a move away from North London.
“Yes, there is progress with all the players. I’ll let Andrea and the club decide and discuss it. The intention is very clear,” said Arteta when asked directly about Partey’s situation.
Partey, 30, has experienced a mixed campaign marked by injury setbacks and periods of reduced playing time.
However, his recent return to form has coincided with a crucial phase of Arsenal’s season, prompting a reassessment of his value to the squad.
Initially utilised as a substitute following his recovery, Partey has re-established himself in the starting lineup, bringing solidity and composure to the Gunners’ midfield.
His resurgence has reportedly attracted interest from several clubs in Europe and beyond, with some expecting Arsenal to allow him to leave in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite this external interest, Arteta’s comments suggest that Arsenal are not ready to part ways with the Ghanaian just yet.
The club appears eager to offer improved terms in a bid to convince him to commit his future to the Premier League title contenders.
With less than 15 months left on his current deal, Partey’s decision is likely to be influenced by both financial terms and his role within Arteta’s plans moving forward.
The midfielder joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 and has since made over 100 appearances in all competitions.
While the final decision now rests with Partey and his representatives, Arsenal’s latest stance signals a clear desire to retain his services and fend off growing interest from rival clubs.
As the season nears its conclusion, the Gunners are keen to avoid losing a key player on a free transfer—especially one who appears to have rediscovered his best form.
