Mikel Arteta praises Ethan Nwaneri’s Arsenal return

Mikel Arteta believes Ethan Nwaneri has returned to Arsenal a more mature player after a difficult loan spell at Marseille.

The teenager’s limited opportunities in France did not match expectations, but his attitude and performances during pre-season have convinced the Arsenal manager that the experience still brought valuable lessons.

Nwaneri made only nine Ligue 1 appearances last season, with instability and frequent changes around Marseille restricting his playing time. Rather than allowing that setback to slow his development, the young midfielder appears to have used the experience to grow personally and professionally.

“Ethan Nwaneri has been really good. What happened during his loan at Marseille was not what was expected. There was a lot of turmoil and change around the club, but he looks different and more mature,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager also stressed how quickly a young footballer can develop when placed outside familiar surroundings.

“It is incredible, at that age, what six months can change: going abroad alone, experiencing difficult moments and discovering another side of football. I am very happy with what he has shown during pre-season,” he added.

Nwaneri now returns to Arsenal with renewed confidence and a stronger understanding of the game. His progress could earn him a more prominent role this season.
