Mikel Arteta agrees new long-term contract to remain Arsenal manager

Mikel Arteta has reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign a new contract, ending uncertainty over the manager’s future and reinforcing both parties’ commitment to the project he began at the club several years ago.

Arteta’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season. Talks over an extension have continued for several months, with negotiations moving closer to a conclusion in recent weeks.

BBC Sport reported earlier this month that an agreement between Arteta and Arsenal was close. The latest developments indicate that the Spanish manager and the club have now reached a final agreement on the new terms.

The length of the contract has not yet been officially confirmed. However, the agreement is expected to keep Arteta at Arsenal for at least 10 years since he took charge in December 2019.

Arteta is also set to receive a significant increase on his current salary of £10 million a year. His existing package includes a further £5 million in incentives and bonuses.

The 42-year-old recently reassured Arsenal supporters that he wanted to remain at the club.

“There is no need for them to worry about any of these things, because I want to stay here,” Arteta said last week. “I am extremely happy and feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”

Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager in December 2019 and has since continued to lead the club’s long-term rebuild. The new agreement underlines the confidence both the manager and the club have in maintaining that direction.

Although the precise details of the contract are still to be announced officially, Arteta now appears set to remain in charge of Arsenal for the long term. The club is expected to confirm the new deal soon.
