Miguel Cardoso hits out at Mamelodi Sundowns fans for ‘speaking too much’
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has criticised some of the club’s supporters, accusing them of talking too much while lacking a proper understanding of the team.
Cardoso made the comments while addressing the criticism surrounding the South African champions, suggesting that some of the fans who are most vocal do not closely follow the club or understand what is happening within the team.
“Unfortunately, at Sundowns, the fans – I think those who talk too much are the ones who don’t really follow the team,” Cardoso said.
“They speak too much and understand too little.”
The Portuguese coach’s remarks are likely to generate debate among Sundowns supporters, who have developed high expectations following the club’s dominance of South African football in recent years.
Sundowns have established themselves as one of the continent’s leading clubs, winning domestic honours consistently while also competing at the highest level in African club competitions.
Cardoso’s comments reflect the pressure that comes with managing a club of Sundowns’ stature, where performances and results are closely scrutinised by supporters and the wider football community.
The coach appears to believe that some of the criticism directed at his team is based on incomplete information rather than a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding the club.
His remarks could further fuel discussions about the relationship between the Sundowns coaching staff and supporters as the club continues its pursuit of success on both the domestic and continental fronts.
Cardoso will be hoping that performances on the pitch can ultimately settle the debate, with Sundowns expected to challenge for major honours again this season.
