Miguel Cardoso hails Sundowns fans after CAF Champions League triumph

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso dedicated his side’s CAF Champions League victory to the club’s supporters after the South African champions sealed a 2–1 aggregate win over Morocco’s Royal Army in a tense two-legged final.

Speaking after the triumph, Cardoso paid tribute to the fans who backed the team throughout their campaign.

“I dedicate this cup to the fans who have continued to believe in us and support us. They truly deserve this trophy,” he said.

The Portuguese coach acknowledged the difficulty of the final and praised his players for their resilience under pressure.

“It was difficult for my players, and all credit goes to them. I commend them for their efforts. It wasn’t easy for them or for me,” he added.

He also expressed appreciation for the travelling supporters who witnessed the decisive matches.

“I would like to thank the fans who travelled here. They were truly wonderful, and we appreciate their presence and sacrifices. The players understood the task. Matches like these are full of intense emotions, and the players delivered a fantastic performance,” he said.

The victory secured Sundowns their second CAF Champions League title, following their maiden triumph in 2016.

For Cardoso, the success marks a significant turnaround after previous continental disappointments, including a defeat with Espérance against Al Ahly and last season’s setback with Sundowns against Pyramids FC.

Sundowns will now shift focus to the CAF Super Cup, where they are set to face USM Alger.
