Simba SC midfielder Neo Maema has disclosed that he remains under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, despite joining the Tanzanian giants last year.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder left Sundowns in August 2025, with the South African club at the time confirming his departure as permanent.
Following his exit, Maema signed with Simba SC, then managed by former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids.
In a recent interview with Metro FM’s SNAWA, Maema clarified that his move to Simba was, in fact, a loan deal.
“A lot of people are not aware that coming to Tanzania was very difficult. I had to negotiate with the club and make it clear that this is where I wanted to go, not locally,” Maema explained.
He added, “What people don’t know is that I’m actually on loan. I still have to return to Sundowns, discuss with them, and possibly reach a mutual agreement. I don’t know why this wasn’t disclosed, and nobody told me not to say anything, but I am still a Sundowns player on loan.”
Maema also confirmed that he has not been in contact with Sundowns since leaving the club, speaking only with his family and agent.
“I think after this season, I have two options: either they trigger the next stage of my contract, or we part ways. I’m hoping they make the decision,” he said.
