Micky van de Ven rewards Tottenham rise with new contract

Tottenham have announced that Dutch defender Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract with the club, although the Premier League side have not disclosed its length.

The agreement was confirmed by Tottenham on Monday, with the club describing the 24-year-old as one of the best central defenders in Europe.

“We are delighted to announce that Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract with the club,” Tottenham said in a statement published on their official website.

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023 and, according to the club, has continued to make significant progress since arriving in north London.

He played an important role in Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League triumph in 2025. Among his contributions was a decisive clearance from the goal line during the final against Manchester United.

Tottenham also highlighted Van de Ven’s leadership during the closing stages of last season. The defender captained the team in the final six matches of the campaign under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The new contract represents another sign of Tottenham’s desire to retain a player they regard as central to their plans, although the club has not provided details about how long the defender will remain under contract.

Van de Ven said he was proud to have agreed fresh terms and insisted that he remains fully committed to Tottenham.

“It’s a special moment to sign a new contract and a proud moment for me and my family,” he said.

“I have always loved Tottenham, from the first day I set foot here. I love the club, I love the fans, and I have developed very well here.”

The Netherlands international also said he wanted to play a part in the club’s future direction.

“It’s clear the direction the club wants to go in, and I want to be part of it. I’m excited for what’s to come,” he added.

Van de Ven’s latest agreement follows a period in which he has established himself as a key figure in Tottenham’s defence. The club’s statement praised his consistent performances since his move from VfL Wolfsburg and pointed to his influence both in defence and as a leader.

His contribution to the 2025 Europa League final was particularly significant, with the goal-line clearance against Manchester United singled out by Tottenham as an example of his importance in a major fixture.

The defender’s leadership role in the final six matches of the previous season was also noted by the club, who said he had shown strong leadership qualities while captaining the side under De Zerbi.

Tottenham have not said whether the new contract changes the existing expiry date or disclosed any other terms of the agreement.
