Michel Dussuyer Appointed Head Coach of Ivory Coast National Team
Abidjan – Michel Dussuyer has been appointed as the new head coach of the Ivory Coast national football team, replacing Hervé Renard, who departed for a managerial role at Lille in Ligue 1. The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) confirmed the 56-year-old Frenchman’s appointment on Monday.
Dussuyer returns to the role with significant experience, having previously worked with the Ivory Coast setup as an assistant coach under Henri Michel in 2006. His most recent coaching stint was with Guinea’s Syli National, a position he vacated following their exit in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Dussuyer’s tenure with Guinea was marked by solid performances, but the team’s elimination led to his resignation.
Before his time with Guinea, Dussuyer also managed the Benin national team, guiding the Écureuils from 2008 to 2010. His experience in African football, along with his previous involvement with the Ivory Coast, makes him a familiar face for many players in the current squad.
Now tasked with leading the Elephants, Dussuyer will look to build on the legacy of Renard, who led Ivory Coast to victory in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. With a wealth of talent at his disposal, including the likes of Yaya Touré, Wilfried Bony, and Serge Aurier, Dussuyer is expected to continue the country’s pursuit of continental and global success.
