West Ham United’s forward, Michail Antonio, is facing an uncertain future in football after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on Saturday.
The 34-year-old, who was in Ghana in November to visit his academy, underwent surgery on Sunday to address a fracture in his lower limb and is now recuperating in the hospital.
Reports indicate that Antonio’s recovery process is anticipated to last at least 12 months, raising fears that he might never return to the Premier League.
During a segment on talkSPORT, presenter Jim White provided an update on Antonio’s condition, confirming that while he is stable, the injury to his leg is significant.
“I was informed this morning that he remains in a stable condition in hospital, with the full support of the NHS and the West Ham medical team,” White stated.
He added, “The damage to one of his legs is severe, and it is believed that the recovery journey will be lengthy, taking at least a year before we know if he can play football again.”
Despite the grim outlook, White noted that Antonio’s status as a top-level athlete may benefit his recovery.
“I was told this morning that Michail is a fighter. His strong physical condition as a professional footballer might give him an advantage in his recovery process.”
