Michael Owen backs Jarrod Bowen as “ideal successor” to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has tipped West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen as the “perfect replacement” for Mohamed Salah at Anfield following the Egyptian’s departure from the club.

Salah has brought his nine-year spell with Liverpool to an end at the conclusion of the current season, closing a defining chapter of his Premier League career.

Owen believes Bowen, who has been linked with a move after West Ham were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the campaign, has the quality to step into the role left vacant at Liverpool.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Owen said: “Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool, and I think Bowen is the perfect replacement for him at Liverpool.”

He added that a potential move would be welcomed broadly, even among West Ham supporters, given the opportunity it would present for the England international to remain at the top level.

“Instead of playing in the first division, he should join one of the best teams in the world and fill the void left by Mohamed Salah. That would be very exciting for him,” Owen added.

Bowen enjoyed a productive season for West Ham, featuring in 42 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists across all competitions.
