Michael Olise sets the Champions League pace as Bayern Munich begin with 5-0 win

Michael Olise produced the standout individual performance of the opening round of Champions League fixtures, scoring twice and providing an assist as Bayern Munich beat Bodø/Glimt 5-0 at Allianz Arena on Thursday.

The France winger was also the leading player in three key statistical categories, according to data from Squawka. No player won more duels than Olise’s 15, created more chances than his seven, or won more fouls than his five during the first round of matches.

Olise’s attacking contribution came as Bayern made an emphatic start to their European campaign. The German club are aiming to win the Champions League for the first time since 2020.

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 47th minute, before Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage with a header in the 61st minute. Kane’s goal came from Olise’s free-kick delivery.

Alphonso Davies extended the hosts’ lead in the 77th minute with a powerful effort from outside the penalty area. Olise then completed the rout with goals in the 83rd minute and two minutes into added time.

The result leaves Bayern Munich second in the standings after the opening round, behind Paris Saint-Germain on goal difference. Paris Saint-Germain are the holders in the last two editions of the competition.

Bayern’s five-goal victory also gave them an ideal platform at the start of their pursuit of another European title. Bodø/Glimt were unable to respond after Musiala’s early second-half goal, and Bayern continued to increase the margin during the final 45 minutes.

Olise, formerly of Crystal Palace, was central to that progress. His set-piece delivery created the opportunity for Kane, while his late finishing ensured Bayern ended the night with a convincing scoreline and three points.
