Michael Olise contract: Bayern Munich ready to bend usual rules

Bayern Munich are prepared to make an unusual concession to keep Michael Olise, with the club reportedly willing to include a release clause worth €200m in a new contract for the France international.

Olise has quickly developed from an exciting signing into a central figure in Bayern’s plans. His latest performances for France during the international break further strengthened the impression that he is continuing the excellent form he showed at the start of the season in Germany.

His growing influence has made his long-term future a major issue for Bayern. The club are keen to secure the winger’s services for many years, but the situation is more complicated than simply agreeing an extension.

According to Sport Bild, no serious negotiations have started and Olise has not made his intentions regarding his future in Munich clear. Bayern would like to reach an agreement quickly and are considering a highly attractive contract that could keep him at the club until 2032.

However, Foot Mercato reports that the player’s representatives want a release clause included in any new deal. Bayern have traditionally been reluctant to accept such provisions, but Bild journalist Christian Falk says the club may now be ready to make an exception.

The proposed arrangement would allow Olise to leave in the future, although the clause would be set at a level that strongly protects Bayern’s interests. The figure being discussed is €200m, giving the German club considerable financial flexibility while addressing the player’s reported desire not to be tied to a long-term contract without an exit option.

Olise currently earns about €14m a year. That is significantly below the €25m salary received by his Bayern team-mate Harry Kane, but his continued progress with France has strengthened his position in negotiations.

Bayern are also aware that several leading European clubs are monitoring the winger’s situation ahead of next summer. Reports have linked Real Madrid and Liverpool with an interest in the former Crystal Palace player.

The Munich club are therefore keen to prevent the talks from reaching an impasse and want to settle Olise’s future as soon as possible. Accepting a release clause would represent a rare change of approach for Bayern, but a €200m figure could provide a compromise that enables them to retain one of their key players while respecting his wish for a degree of flexibility.
