Michael Nsien, a frontrunner for the position of coach of the Super Eagles, has expressed his determination to secure the role. Currently serving as the coach of the United States Under-19 team, Nsien believes he is the ideal candidate for the job, citing his passion for Nigerian football and his extensive coaching experience.
In an interview with Punch, the 43-year-old American of Nigerian descent emphasized his unique background, stating, “I’m the best of both worlds.
As an American of Nigerian descent, I have a passion for the Super Eagles and I also know the responsibilities that come with this head coaching position.
I have experience working in an environment that spares no expense on technology, has top-notch scouting infrastructure and top-to-bottom coaching collaboration.”
Nsien’s confidence in his ability to lead the Super Eagles stems not only from his coaching credentials but also from his intimate knowledge of Nigerian football.
He believes he understands the challenges facing Nigerian football and is eager to address them. “I know where we are in Nigerian football and I know the gap that exists.
I can bridge the gap and help us get to the level we should be at in world football. It’s time to change course and move forward. I want to put smiles on the faces of our people,” he remarked.
Having embarked on his coaching journey as an assistant for the Tulsa Roughnecks in the United States, Nsien has steadily risen through the ranks.
He took over as head coach of the United States men’s under-16 national team in 2022 and was subsequently promoted to lead the under-19 team, a role he holds to this day.
As the race for the position of Super Eagles coach intensifies, Nsien’s passion for Nigerian football and his proven track record in coaching make him a compelling candidate for the role.
