Michael Folorunsho: Monza eye move for Napoli’s Italy-Nigeria midfielder

Michael Folorunsho, the Italy-Nigeria midfielder currently at Napoli, is being linked with a move to fellow Serie A side Monza as the Lombardy club explore options to strengthen their central midfield this summer.

Folorunsho, 28, returned to Napoli at the end of last season after a loan spell at Cagliari and is under contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona until 30 June 2029. That long-term deal and a current estimated valuation of around €5m mean any approach from Monza is likely to involve a negotiated fee rather than a cut‐price exit.

Born in Rome and standing at 1.90m, the right-footed central midfielder has built up extensive experience across Italy’s top two divisions. He has made more than 80 Serie A appearances, as well as a similar volume of games in Serie B, where he has produced a steady return of goals and assists from midfield.

Napoli signed Folorunsho from Virtus Francavilla in 2019 and have repeatedly sent him on loan, including recent stints at Hellas Verona, Fiorentina, Bari, Reggina and Pordenone, to secure him regular top-flight and second-tier minutes. He was part of the Napoli squad that claimed the Italian title in the 2024-25 season, adding a major domestic honour to his CV.

With Napoli well stocked in midfield and Monza looking to add proven Serie A experience, Folorunsho’s situation is being closely monitored, but he remains a Napoli player and tied to the club for another three years.
