Michael Essien Denies Ebola Rumors Amid Injury Recovery
Ghanaian international Michael Essien found himself at the center of unfounded rumors over the weekend, with speculation swirling on social media that he had contracted the Ebola virus. The AC Milan midfielder, currently sidelined due to injury, was quick to respond and set the record straight.
Taking to Twitter, Essien reassured fans:
“The rumors claiming that I contracted the Ebola virus are false. I am very well and I will train tomorrow, as usual.”
Essien also took a moment to address the seriousness of the issue:
“The real victims of Ebola deserve more consideration. My thoughts are with them and their families.”
AC Milan also dismissed the rumors, confirming that the player is in good health and continuing his recovery.
The Ebola outbreak has created widespread concern, particularly in Africa. In response, Morocco, the host of the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), requested a postponement of the tournament due to fears over public gatherings involving teams from affected countries.
However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) swiftly responded, stating:
“CAF has registered this request from Morocco and confirms that no changes are on the agenda of the calendar of its competitions and events.”
Essien’s quick response highlights both the danger of misinformation and the importance of focusing attention on those truly affected by the crisis.
