Kobbie Mainoo in the spotlight

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has praised the impact of Kobbie Mainoo following his standout display in the team’s 2-1 win over Brentford FC at Old Trafford.

The young midfielder delivered an impressive all-round performance, playing a key role in the team’s attacking build-up.

Carrick Highlights All-Round Growth

Reflecting on Mainoo’s recent form, Carrick pointed to his growing influence across multiple aspects of the game, particularly his composure in possession and ability to initiate attacks.

“I thought on the back of the Chelsea game, where he was particularly good and showed similar things, with a bit of everything. His build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks, he’s so effective with that. But definitely, his duels, his 1v1s, recovery runs and back-tackling – over the last two games he’s taken that up a level. It’s great to see that he can do it,” Carrick said.

Encouragement for Continued Development

Carrick emphasised that while the club has full confidence in Mainoo’s abilities, they are focused on gradually increasing his responsibilities without placing excessive pressure on him.

“We know that he can do it. We’re trying to give him more responsibility as the games go on. We’re still not expected too much of him and understand and try to help him a bit, but he’s doing great at the moment,” he added.

Long-Term Commitment Secured

In a further boost for the club, Manchester United have reportedly agreed a new contract with Mainoo that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031, underlining their belief in his long-term potential and importance to the team’s future.
