Michael Carrick admits Benjamin Sesko return date remains unclear for Manchester United
Michael Carrick says Manchester United have no fixed timetable for Benjamin Sesko’s return after the forward suffered a second leg injury.
Sesko, 23, withdrew from Slovenia duty after missing United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham before the international break. Carrick confirmed the latest problem is in a similar area to the injury that kept the striker out for three months during the summer.
The Slovenia international will miss Tottenham’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday, with Carrick acknowledging that he does not yet know when Sesko will be available again.
“It’s not the exact same problem, it’s a similar area, but it’s not exactly the same thing again,” Carrick said, in comments reported by ESPN.
“We’re sort of working through it a little bit to see how long it’s going to take. Hopefully it will be soon, of course, but at the moment it’s still not completely clear.”
Sesko’s absence adds to a growing list of selection concerns for Carrick ahead of Tottenham’s visit.
Patrick Dorgu is also unavailable after suffering a hamstring injury while playing for Denmark. Carrick expects the defender to be out for several weeks, while Noussair Mazraoui remains doubtful after sustaining a knock.
“Patrick has come out and it looks like he’ll probably be out for a number of weeks,” Carrick said.
“Noussair came off and took a knock. He’s not quite ready yet, so we’ll have to assess how he is.”
There was more positive news regarding Carlos Baleba, who has improved and completed a significant amount of training since joining Manchester United from Brighton in the summer. He could make his first appearance for the club against Tottenham.
“Carlos has improved and trained a lot,” said Carrick.
Amad has also taken part in some training, alongside Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, although Carrick stressed that the players are at different stages of readiness.
“Amad has done some training, as have Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo,” he added. “So the situation within the group is quite mixed.”
