Tunisian tennis player Malek Jaziri faced a tough challenge against Alejandro Gonzales.
Despite putting up a competitive fight, the 118th-ranked player in the world was defeated by the Colombian, who is ranked 83rd, in straight sets (6-7, 1-6) on Wednesday evening. Jaziri narrowly lost the first set after a closely contested tie-break (9-11).
His defeat can be attributed in part to the fatigue accumulated from the two qualifying rounds required to reach the main draw of the tournament.
Jaziri earned his spot in the main draw by defeating Argentine Diego Suartzman (6-2, 7-6) and German Benjamin Becker (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the qualifying rounds.
