Mexer will leave Stade Rennais this summer, choosing not to extend his contract despite the club’s efforts to retain him. The Mozambican defender, who joined the Red and Blacks in 2014, has decided to continue his career elsewhere in Ligue 1.
On Thursday, Mexer confirmed in Ouest-France that he has signed a four-year deal with Bordeaux. The 30-year-old brings experience and stability to the Girondins’ backline, adding depth to their defensive options ahead of the new season.
The transfer had attracted interest from several clubs, including FC Nantes, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Rangers under Steven Gerrard, but Bordeaux ultimately secured his services after weeks of negotiations. Mexer’s move ensures he remains in France’s top division while embarking on a fresh chapter in his career.
