Florent Malouda Reveals Lyon Return Was a Possibility
After his brief stint in Turkey with Trabzonspor, former French international Florent Malouda made his return to France by signing with FC Metz. But as he recently revealed in an interview with Surface Magazine, a return to Olympique Lyonnais—where his career initially took off—was not out of the question.
“Lyon could have been a possibility, as my family has been there since last year,” Malouda shared. “I spoke with Florian Maurice [Lyon’s sporting director] at the start of the season. But for the club, it was never really discussed in detail.”
Despite the mutual ties and familiarity, the move ultimately didn’t materialize, and Malouda opted for Metz, where he aimed to bring his experience to the newly promoted Ligue 1 side. His remarks suggest that while a Lyon reunion was on the table, it was never seriously pursued by the club’s management.
