Yassine El Ghanassy is set to depart La Gantoise and make a move to the Al Ain club in Abu Dhabi. The Belgian-Moroccan player, who had attracted attention in Ligue 1, has found himself on the sidelines in Ghent in recent weeks. Seeking more playing time, the La Gantoise striker is anticipated to undergo a medical examination in Al-Ain this Thursday before finalizing his contract. The agreement between the two clubs involves a loan arrangement with an option to buy.
Expressing his enthusiasm, El Ghanassy stated, “I am very happy. I don’t see this as a step backward for my career. If I go there, it’s not for the money. This club plays every year for the title and also competes in the Asian Champions League. Of course, Al Ain is a club that has a lot of resources, but above all, I am here to give new impetus to my career.”
In Al Ain, El Ghanassy will fill the void left by the departure of Brazilian player Michel Bastos, recently transferred to AS Rome. His role will involve providing assists to Asamoah Gyan, the Ghanaian international striker and the current top scorer in the competition. At just 23 years old, El Ghanassy, after stints in England and the Netherlands, is poised to embark on a new chapter in a third country.
