Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, following his outstanding season with Saint-Etienne, has been awarded the Marc-Vivien Foé RFI-France 24 Prize for the best African player in Ligue 1 for the 2012-2013 season. The Gabonese striker, aged 23, showcased his talent with 19 goals and 8 assists in the Championship, drawing attention from top European football clubs. He is expected to be a major target during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Roland Romeyer, the president of the ASSE board of directors, acknowledged Aubameyang’s potential departure and discussed the situation in an interview with the Burkinabé daily Sidwaya, as reported by Le 10 Sport. Romeyer expressed positive sentiments about Aubameyang, stating, “The only one who has a good exit is Pierre Emerick Aubameyang with whom we have very good relations. He’s an extraordinary kid.” However, Romeyer also acknowledged that Aubameyang has grown and is now interested in clubs that can offer him a career superior to Saint-Etienne’s.
While expressing the club’s willingness to keep their best players, Romeyer hinted at possible departures during the transfer window. He stated, “We have to be sure of one thing; we are not going to sell our entire workforce to replenish our coffers. But if we want to continue our progress next season, we have to keep our good players and replace the one or those who leave, because in my opinion, there will perhaps be three or four players who will leave. Maybe Aubameyang if there are important proposals. The others are because we would like to get rid of them, so we will find solutions.
