Mennasakin Belay Gebeyehu: Ethiopian defender joins SV Deutz 05 on free transfer
Ethiopian defender Mennasakin Belay Gebeyehu has joined German club SV Deutz 05 on a free transfer from Glesch-Paffendorf. The 21-year-old has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 after completing his switch on 11 July 2026.
Gebeyehu arrives at Deutz 05 after a season with Glesch-Paffendorf, whom he also joined without a fee in 2025. The move keeps him in the German regional system and offers continuity at senior level following a series of short-term spells in the countrys lower leagues.
Primarily a defender, Gebeyehu has already built up experience in the Landesliga Mittelrhein, making 18 league appearances and one cup outing across recent seasons. He has accumulated over 800 minutes of competitive football in the division, underlining his status as a regular squad option at his previous club.
Before his time at Glesch-Paffendorf, the Ethiopian spent periods with FC Hurth II and Koln-Flittard, stepping up from youth to senior football via FC Hurths Under-19s and earlier age-group sides at Koln-Flittard. His latest move represents another step in that pathway as he settles into the senior game.
Gebeyehus contract at SV Deutz 05 runs for one year, tying him to the club until the end of June 2027 following his free-transfer move from Glesch-Paffendorf.
