Memphis Depay proposes unusual Corinthians deal terms including stadium use and payment penalties

Memphis Depay has reportedly made a series of major demands as he seeks to renew his contract with Corinthians, including two days of personal use of Neo Quimica Arena each year and a private box at the stadium.

The Netherlands forward’s proposals were reported by Gazeta Esportiva and include a 10% increase on the complete financial package previously agreed with the Brazilian club. That package covers his salary, image rights and marketing payments.

Depay has reportedly said the additional 10% would be transferred entirely to his agent.

The player is also owed money by Corinthians. The principal debt is understood to be about 45m Brazilian reais, but the total rises to 77m reais approximately $15m once interest and penalties are included.

Depay has agreed to waive the additional charges and accept the original amount in four instalments, paid every six months. However, his proposal states that the debt would return to its full value of 77m reais if Corinthians missed any of the scheduled payments.

Proposed terms for new contract

The suggested new contract would be worth 70m Brazilian reais over two seasons, covering wages, image rights and marketing income.

Depay’s representatives have proposed a clause requiring Corinthians to pay interest of 1.5% each month if any payment is late, alongside a 10% penalty.

The player has also requested guarantees over 14m reais in marketing revenue that Corinthians has promised to generate through commercial campaigns involving him. Under the proposal, Depay would receive the full amount even if the club failed to meet its intended commercial target.

That demand would come with a further 10% added to the value of the contract.

The latest conditions build on earlier requests made by Depay. Those included a private box at Neo Quimica Arena, which he has also sought in the new discussions, as well as 50% of Corinthians’ revenue during the period of the contract.

He also asked for 20% of bonuses earned from winning trophies and a share of any future Club World Cup prize money, even if he was no longer part of the squad when the competition took place.

Corinthians previously rejected the player’s earlier demands.

Depay joined the club in 2024 and has made 79 appearances, scoring 20 goals. During his time with Corinthians, he has won three trophies.

The reported negotiations come as the club considers the financial implications of extending the Netherlands international’s stay, with the proposed agreement combining salary, commercial rights, debt repayment terms and access to stadium facilities.
