Memphis Depay becomes Netherlands all-time topscorer
Corinthians forward Memphis Depay has etched his name into the history books of the Netherlands after scoring a brace against Lithuania in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Depay, who has Ghanaian root started and played for 83 minutes as his outfit cruised to a 3-2 away win over Lithuania in a high-stake clash.
The former Barcelona and Manchester United star played a pivotal role for the Dutch national team by scoring a brace, contributing to their victory at the S. Dariaus ir S. Giréno stadionas on Sunday evening.
The 31-year-old turned in Cody Gakpo’s cross from six yards out to net a landmark 51st international goal before netting his second goal of the match to take his tally to 52 goals in 104 appearances.
With these goals, Depay is currently the all-time topscorer for the Dutch national team, followed by Robin van Persie (50 goals), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (42 goals), and Patrick Kluivert with (40 goals).
Depay played for PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before moving to Brazil last year.
He made his Netherlands debut in 2013 against Turkey, and scored his first goal against Australia at the 2014 World.
