Mehdi Soliman dedicates Zamalek’s man-of-the-match award to supporters

Mehdi Soliman dedicated his man-of-the-match award to Zamalek’s supporters after helping the club beat National Bank of Egypt 3-0 at Cairo International Stadium.

The goalkeeper was recognised after Zamalek secured their first victory of the league campaign, with all three goals arriving in the second half. The result moved Zamalek on to four points from their opening two matches and into second place in the table, at least temporarily, following one draw and one win.

Speaking through Zamalek’s media centre, Soliman thanked the club’s fans for the backing they have continued to provide.

“I dedicate the best player award to Zamalek’s fans, who always support us, and I thank them for their continued support of the team,” he said.

Zamalek began the season with a draw against Al Ittihad Alexandria, while the team’s preparations for the campaign started later than planned and took place in difficult circumstances.

“The beginning was with a draw against Al Ittihad Alexandria, and the team began the preparation period late and in difficult circumstances,” Soliman said. “This is something that affects any team, but Zamalek are a very big team.”

The goalkeeper also sought to reassure supporters that the squad had the quality and character required to compete for the league title.

“I reassure the fans that we have players of the highest level and men who are committed,” he added. “We are seeking to give our best to make the fans happy and retain the league title.”

Soliman concluded by crediting his team-mates for helping him claim the individual award.

“I thank everyone who supports us, and winning the best player award today was achieved with the support of my team-mates,” he said.

Zamalek’s substitutes proved decisive against National Bank of Egypt in the second round of the league. Chico Banza, Hossam Ashraf and Ahmed Abdel Rahim “Isho” all came off the bench to score in the second half.

The victory provided a strong response after Zamalek’s opening draw and kept them close to the top of the early standings. Their points total currently places them second, although that position is subject to change as other teams complete their matches.

Zamalek’s next fixture is scheduled for Monday in the third round, when they will face Montakhab El Suez Petrojet.

National Bank of Egypt remain without a point after two matches and will be looking for their first result of the campaign when they play Asyut Petroleum on Monday.
