Mehdi Ganouni: Tunisian-French midfielder joins Al-Ittihad from US Monastir for €260k

Tunisian-French attacking midfielder Mehdi Ganouni has joined Libya’s Al-Ittihad from US Monastir for €260,000.

The move was completed on 8 September, taking the 21-year-old from Tunisia’s Ligue 1 to the Libyan Premier League. Ganouni will continue his career in Libya after leaving US Monastir, where he had been playing before the switch.

Ganouni’s preferred position is attacking midfield, placing him in a role focused on operating behind the forward line and contributing to the creative side of Al-Ittihad’s play. His nationality is recorded as both Tunisian and French.

The transfer fee of €260,000 is below Ganouni’s recorded market value of €350,000. The figures provide the financial detail of a move involving a young player changing leagues and countries at the age of 21.

Al-Ittihad, based in Libya, becomes the next club in Ganouni’s career after his spell with US Monastir. The transfer also represents a move away from the competition in which his former club played, with the attacking midfielder now joining a side in the Libyan top flight.

Ganouni’s arrival gives Al-Ittihad a new option in the attacking-midfield position as the club adds a player with experience of Tunisian league football to its squad. His move was finalised during the September transfer period, with the agreed fee set at €260,000.
