Mehdi Dorval dreams of becoming a key player for Algeria
Mehdi Dorval, recently called up for the second time to Algeria’s national team, is living a pivotal moment in his career.
In a heartfelt interview, the Bari fullback shared his ambitions and love for the Fennecs. Born in Paris to a Réunion father and Algerian mother, Dorval never hesitated about his choice: “I never doubted. Representing Algeria, my mother’s country, is an immense pride.”
At just 24, Dorval is determined to carve out a role for himself, saying, “Short term, I want to fully integrate with the group and earn the coach’s trust. Long term, my dream is to become a key part of the national team and help bring international success.”
Dorval made his debut in October, playing 23 minutes against Uganda, impressing observers with his energy and composure. Even with fierce competition for the fullback spot, he says, “Competition drives everyone to excel. It’s a chance to grow alongside so much talent.”
He’s focused on future tournaments: “Playing in the upcoming AFCON and World Cup would be a dream, especially after recent heartbreaks. I want to help Algeria regain its place among Africa’s best.”
With his contract at Bari ending soon and offers from Serie A, Dorval remains grounded: “Being wanted recognizes my hard work, but I’m focused on continued progress.”
His versatility, discipline, and deep affection for Algeria make Dorval one of the brightest new hopes for the Fennecs, and his dream may well become reality.
