Mehdi Dorval: Algerian-French Bari defender linked with Sampdoria move

Algerian-French left-back Mehdi Dorval of Bari is the subject of interest from Serie B side Sampdoria, with the Genoa club exploring a potential deal for the 25-year-old. The defender, who can operate on either foot, is under contract with Bari until 30 June 2027, meaning any agreement would require Sampdoria to negotiate a fee rather than a free transfer.

Dorval has established himself as a consistent performer in Italy’s lower leagues and has been a regular presence for Bari since joining from Cerignola in July 2022. His development in Apulia, after stepping up from Serie D, has drawn attention from higher up the pyramid, with Sampdoria viewing the former Amiens youth player as a candidate to strengthen their left side as they look to push on in Serie B.

In Serie B alone, Dorval has made 123 appearances, contributing six goals and 16 assists and accumulating more than 9,700 minutes on the pitch, underlining his experience at that level despite his relatively young age. His versatility and significant game time in Italy’s second tier are understood to be key factors in Sampdoria’s interest.

Born in Paris on 9 February 2001, Dorval represents Algeria and France at nationality level and has built his senior career entirely in Italy since leaving French youth football. Bari previously secured him on a free transfer, but with his current market value listed at around €1.8 million and a long-term deal in place, the Serie C club are in a strong position as they assess any formal approach for their left-back.
