The Belgian midfielder, Mehdi Carcela, has found himself embroiled in controversy after being accused of assaulting a young man with a champagne bottle in a nightclub. The incident allegedly occurred when the victim was speaking to a girl in Carcela’s group, prompting a confrontation that resulted in Carcela allegedly striking the victim with the bottle.
The victim recounted the events, stating that Carcela and his friends attacked him after accusing him of previous misconduct. He claimed to have suffered multiple blows from Carcela and his friends before being ejected from the nightclub by bouncers.
However, the nightclub’s management provided a different version of events, stating that the victim had stolen a bottle of champagne from Carcela’s group, prompting a confrontation that led to the victim being ejected from the premises. They denied any involvement of Carcela in the altercation and emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards theft and violence.
Neither Carcela nor his club, Standard de Liège, have commented on the incident so far.
