Mehdi Benatia, the captain of the Morocco national team, has expressed his disappointment with the interim coach, Hassan Benabicha. Benatia was left out of the squad for the friendly match against Gabon on March 5, despite his willingness to participate.
In an interview with the Team, Benatia mentioned that he was not surprised by the decision because of recent remarks made by Benabicha. He stated that although a former player informed him that the interim coach wanted to include him in the squad, he did not receive any official communication from the coach or the federation. Benatia expressed his frustration, particularly after reading an interview where Benabicha seemingly questioned his commitment.
Benatia emphasized that he had already purchased his ticket to Marrakech for the match, indicating his willingness to participate if called upon. He believed that if the coach had any doubts about his involvement, a simple phone call could have clarified the situation. Overall, Benatia felt that the coach’s remarks sent the wrong message to the supporters and could have been handled better.
