Mehdaoui completes MC Algiers move from Olympique Akbou in Ligue 1 switch
Algerian central midfielder Merouane Mehdaoui has completed a move to MC Algiers from Olympique Akbou in an all-Ligue 1 transfer dated 8 July 2026, with the deal concluded for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old, who plays primarily as a central midfielder and is right-footed, joins the Algiers side after a standout spell at Olympique Akbou, where his market value rose sharply over the past two seasons. His current valuation stands at 400,000, having climbed from 225,000 in June 2025 and 300,000 in December 2025 as he established himself in Algerias top flight.
Mehdaouis move keeps him in Ligue 1, with both Olympique Akbou and MC Algiers competing in the Algerian top division. Standing at 1.81m and born in Bechar on 10 January 1998, he arrives at MC Algiers in his prime years, adding experience in the heart of midfield.
The Algeria national, who previously rebuilt his career after a spell without a club in 2021, first emerged on the radar at NC Magra, where his market value initially reached 75,000 in the 202021 season. A later period without a club in 2023 saw that value drop to zero before his resurgence at Olympique Akbou.
A move from Entente Sour el Ghozlane to Olympique Akbou in July 2023 preceded Mehdaouis rise, with consistent performances driving a steady increase in his valuation and culminating in his transfer to MC Algiers ahead of the 202627 campaign.
Mehdaoui now continues his Ligue 1 career with MC Algiers following a rapid ascent in market value and form at Olympique Akbou.
