Medhi Benatia linked with Sporting Director role at AS Roma
Former Morocco international Medhi Benatia has emerged as a strong candidate for the sporting director position at AS Roma following his departure from Olympique de Marseille.
Reports in the Italian media suggest Roma are considering major changes within their sporting structure after an underwhelming campaign, with Benatia now viewed as one of the leading options for the role.
According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the former defender has already expressed interest in joining the Serie A club, relying on both his extensive European football experience and his recent administrative work in Ligue 1.
Benatia remains a popular figure among Roma supporters after enjoying an impressive spell with the club during the 2013/14 season. The Moroccan made 37 appearances and scored five goals before securing a high-profile transfer to Bayern Munich.
Many observers believe his deep understanding of Roma’s culture, combined with his fluency in Italian, could make him the ideal figure to strengthen the connection between the club’s management and the playing squad.
Should the appointment materialise, Benatia would be tasked with helping rebuild Roma’s squad ahead of next season in one of Europe’s most demanding and tactically intense leagues.
The speculation intensified shortly after Benatia officially confirmed his departure from Marseille, fueling reports that a return to the Italian capital could be his next move.
