MC Oran fall at home as USM El Harrach and others advance in the Algerian Cup
The latest round of Algerian Cup last-32 ties produced drama and a few shocks, with MC Oran crashing out at home against neighbours ES Mostaganem, who turned a goal down into a 2-1 win thanks to quick-fire strikes from Motrani and Askar after Kerroum had scored a penalty.
Another Ligue 1 side, MB Rouissat, also bowed out with a narrow defeat away to USMK, settled by an early goal from Ammar Oukil.
Elsewhere, top-flight clubs largely did the job. ASO Chlef moved through with a 1-0 victory over CA Sidi Abdelmoumen courtesy of Togolese forward Avotor, while CS Constantine eventually overpowered Ligue 2 leaders JS El Biar 4-1 after extra time in a game that was far tighter than the scoreline suggests.
There was an intense all-Ligue 2 clash between MO Béjaïa and USM El Harrach, with the Algiers side winning 2-1 away thanks to goals from Bchou and Zouari. NA Hussein Dey cruised past IRB Sedrata 3-0, ASM Oran squeezed through on penalties at Ouargla against former winners CR Béni Thour after a 1-1 draw, while ESM Koléa edged JS Bordj Ménaïel 1-0 and MB Barika beat OM Mers El Hadjadj by the same score to complete the list of qualifiers.
