Frustrating blow as MC Alger extend winless run with goalless draw

MC Alger’s winless streak stretched to three matches after they were held to a 0-0 draw by JS Kabylie in the Algerian Ligue 1 on Thursday evening.

The league leaders, coached by Rulani Mokwena, entered the fixture seeking a return to form following two consecutive defeats in all competitions.

However, despite clear intent from both sides, neither defence was breached in a tightly contested encounter.

JS Kabylie, managed by Josef Zinnbauer, matched the reigning champions in intensity and organisation.

Chances were limited, and both goalkeepers were rarely seriously tested as the match concluded without a breakthrough.

The result leaves MC Alger at the summit of the Ligue 1 standings with 37 points from 17 matches.

They maintain a slender one-point advantage over their closest rivals, although they have played four fewer games than those in pursuit.

For Mokwena’s side, the immediate concern lies in momentum. After back-to-back defeats prior to Thursday’s draw, the defending champions have now gone three matches without a victory across competitions.

While their league position remains intact, the inability to convert performances into wins has raised questions about consistency at a decisive stage of the campaign.

Attention now shifts to cup action, where MC Alger are scheduled to face CR Belouizdad, coached by Sead Ramovic, in the quarter-finals of the Algerian Cup on Tuesday, 3 March.

That fixture offers an opportunity to halt the current run and regain confidence. For now, however, the stalemate against JS Kabylie underlines a testing period for the league leaders as they seek to reassert their dominance.
