MC Alger have initiated formal discussions with Youcef Belaïli in a bold attempt to bring the Algerian international back to the club during the current transfer window—a move that could send shockwaves through the Algerian football scene.
Belaïli, who is currently contracted to Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis until June 2026, has reportedly been approached by MC Alger’s management in recent days.
The club is keen on bolstering its attacking options with a player of proven calibre and sees Belaïli as the marquee signing to lead their summer recruitment drive.
The 32-year-old winger has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Espérance, delivering key performances throughout the 2024–25 season, including at the FIFA Club World Cup.
His ability to influence matches and produce decisive moments has not gone unnoticed, attracting the attention of several clubs in North Africa and beyond.
However, it is MC Alger that appears most determined to engineer a return for one of Algeria’s most technically gifted forwards.
Despite the club’s ambition, the path to securing Belaïli’s signature is expected to be far from straightforward. Espérance de Tunis are reluctant to let go of a player who remains integral to their plans, and any transfer would likely require a significant fee.
Complicating matters further, Belaïli’s current wages are believed to be substantial—posing a potential stumbling block for MC Alger’s financial structure.
Nevertheless, the club’s leadership seems intent on exploring all avenues to reach an agreement. A successful deal would not only mark a major statement of intent from MC Alger but would also reunite the winger with the club he left in 2023 to rejoin Espérance, following earlier spells in France with Angers SCO and Stade Brestois.
During the 2024–25 season, Belaïli featured in 34 matches across all competitions for Espérance, contributing 10 goals and nine assists.
His creative output, combined with his vast experience at both club and international level, makes him an appealing target for any side seeking to inject quality and leadership into its ranks.
Belaïli, born on 14 March 1992 in Oran, is widely recognised as one of Algeria’s most talented players of his generation.
Known for his flair, vision, and technical prowess, he has also represented his country on numerous occasions, adding a layer of prestige to any club he joins.
According to Transfermarkt, Belaïli’s market value is currently estimated at €1.7 million—a figure that reflects both his enduring quality and his consistent performances despite being in the latter stages of his career.
While his age might suggest a player entering the twilight of his professional journey, his recent displays indicate he still has plenty to offer at a high level.
If MC Alger manage to overcome the financial and contractual hurdles, Belaïli’s return would be one of the most significant moves in Algerian domestic football in recent years.
For now, negotiations continue, and the footballing public will be watching closely as the saga unfolds in the weeks ahead.
