The management of Algerian giants MC Alger is reportedly divided over the possible appointment of South African coach Rulani Mokwena as head coach ahead of the new football season.
Mokwena has emerged as a strong candidate to take charge of the North African club following the departure of Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia.
Despite guiding the team to a league title, Ben Yahia was dismissed after just six months in charge.
Since leaving Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club in May, Mokwena’s name has been circulating widely, with increasing speculation linking him to several top sides across the continent.
According to Sport Le360, the prospect of Mokwena taking over at MC Alger has caused internal friction, with sections of the club’s leadership backing the 38-year-old for his tactical acumen and continental experience, while others remain skeptical.
Critics within the club’s hierarchy, particularly among the Elders, have reportedly raised concerns over Mokwena’s inability to secure Wydad a place in next season’s CAF Champions League — a perceived blemish on his recent record.
Despite the divided opinion at Alger, Mokwena continues to attract interest elsewhere. He has also been linked with Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC and is understood to have declined multiple offers from clubs in the Gulf region.
