MC Alger coach Khaled Ben Yahia threatens to exit club despite CAF Champions League qualification
Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia is reportedly considering leaving MC Alger despite guiding the Algerian giants into the group stage of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League.
According to reports, Ben Yahia has informed the club’s management of his intention to depart, with his decision reportedly linked to tensions with sections of the club’s supporters.
The development comes shortly after MC Alger secured qualification for the group stage following their second-leg encounter against Nigeria’s Rangers International in the second qualifying round of the continental competition.
Despite achieving the club’s immediate objective, the Tunisian tactician is said to be unhappy with the treatment he has received from some supporters, raising uncertainty over his future at the Algerian side.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated during the first-leg encounter against Rangers International in Nigeria, where some supporters allegedly attempted to force their way into the dressing rooms with the intention of attacking the coach.
The alleged incident is believed to have affected Ben Yahia’s relationship with sections of the fanbase and contributed to his reported desire to leave the club.
His situation now rests with the MC Alger management, who must decide how to respond to the coach’s reported request amid preparations for the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
Ben Yahia’s possible departure would represent a significant development for MC Alger, particularly after the team secured its place in the group stage and appeared to be making progress towards its continental ambitions.
However, until the club issues an official statement or confirms the coach’s departure, his future remains uncertain.
For now, attention will be on the response of MC Alger’s hierarchy and whether efforts can be made to resolve the reported tensions and convince the Tunisian tactician to continue in his role.
