MC Alger aim to finish the job against ASN Nigelec in CAF Champions League

MC Alger host ASN Nigelec on Saturday, 12 September at 19:00 GMT in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with the tie finely balanced after a goalless draw in Niamey.

The Algerian club must now make home advantage count if they are to seize control of the contest and move closer to qualification. The 0-0 result from the first meeting means neither side has gained a decisive advantage, leaving the tie open ahead of the return fixture.

ASN Nigelec kept a clean sheet in Niger and will travel to Algeria knowing that a favourable result could take them through. MC Alger, meanwhile, will have to improve in the final third after failing to score in the opening leg.

Attacking efficiency is therefore likely to be central to the match. MC Alger are expected to see more of the ball and attempt to establish pressure in the Nigerien side’s half, while ASN Nigelec can rely on their defensive organisation and look to threaten on the transition.

MC Alger also have a significant advantage in their record at home. According to an analysis published before the match, the Algerian club had gone on a long unbeaten run on their own ground. ASN Nigelec will therefore need another highly disciplined defensive performance to keep their qualification hopes alive.
