Bryan Mbeumo scored for Manchester United at Leeds United, while Alex Iwobi’s first goal since March secured a crucial win for Fulham in the latest Premier League action involving African players in Europe.
England
Bryan Mbeumo – Manchester United
Cameroon forward Mbeumo scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road.
The 35th-minute opener came when Mbeumo finished a Youri Tielemans cross, giving United the lead against their bitter rivals and offering manager Michael Carrick relief after the club’s difficult start to the campaign.
Leeds responded after the break, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalising to earn the hosts a point. Avoiding another defeat was important for Carrick, who remains under pressure following United’s poor run of results.
Alex Iwobi – Fulham
Iwobi scored in the 33rd minute to give Fulham a 1-0 victory over Hull at Craven Cottage and deliver a first Premier League win for manager Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Nigeria midfielder collected Sander Berge’s pass before sending a low effort under Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. The result lifted Fulham out of the relegation zone and gave former Real Madrid manager Arbeloa some much-needed breathing space.
Spain
Ez Abde – Real Betis
Morocco international Abde scored against his former club Barcelona, although Real Betis lost an eventful La Liga match 5-2.
The 24-year-old winger produced a composed finish early in the second half for his fourth goal in five matches for the Andalucian side.
Bil Nsongo – Deportivo La Coruna
Cameroon striker Nsongo scored his first goal of the season to help Deportivo La Coruna draw 1-1 with Levante.
The 22-year-old reacted quickest to a rebound inside the penalty area before bundling the ball into the net to secure a point for the Galician club.
Italy
Akor Adams – Venezia
Nigeria forward Adams scored as bottom club Venezia ended a six-match losing streak since the start of the Serie A season with a 1-0 win against former champions Napoli.
Adams took advantage of a long ball and found the net with a deflected effort after 49 minutes, giving new Venezia head coach Davide Nicola a winning start.
Ange-Yoan Bonny – Inter Milan
Ivory Coast forward Bonny completed Inter Milan’s 3-1 away win over Bologna by scoring six minutes from time.
The defending champions’ substitute finished after being set up by fellow replacement Carlos Augusto, who had also scored.
Germany
Ibrahim Maza – Bayer Leverkusen
Algeria midfielder Maza scored and supplied an assist in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 Bundesliga home victory against Freiburg.
He converted a Patrik Schick pass midway through the first half before creating Leverkusen’s second goal late on with an impressive dribble for the Czech striker.
Maza was named man of the match and said he was “building chemistry” with veteran forward Schick, who became the first Bayer player to score in the first six games of the season.
