M’Baye Niang, who arrived at Rennes quietly last summer, has ended the season with his best statistical performance despite a challenging first half. The Senegalese international striker, on loan from Torino with a €10 million purchase option, has expressed his desire to remain at SRFC, confident that the club will exercise the option.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Niang reflected on his season and future. “I haven’t had any contact with Torino, but if I continue like this, I know Rennes will buy me back. I would be happy because I’m doing very well, we have a great team with which we can achieve great things. In Turin, things didn’t go as I wanted, it’s nobody’s fault, it’s simply not the right place for me. Today, I’m thinking about my own well-being and that of my family. So I want to stay here. But I still need to speak with the president and the management,” he said, leaving the decision in the club’s hands.
Niang’s resurgence this season coincided with Julien Stéphan’s arrival as Rennes coach at the end of last year. The 24-year-old striker played 40 matches across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 5 assists, cementing his importance to the team and demonstrating his capability to thrive in Ligue 1.
With his strong performances and clear commitment to the club, Niang appears determined to continue his career at Rennes, hoping the management will formalize his permanent transfer and allow him to build on a successful season.
