Authorities are seeking to establish whether the Franco-Senegalese footballer was the driver of his car during the incident and whether his driving license is valid. Two other individuals suspected of having driven Niang’s Ferrari will also be questioned in relation to the incident.
As of midday, Niang was still in police custody. Additionally, his teammate Nicolas Saint-Ruf, who joined Montpellier during the winter transfer window from RC Lens, was also heard by the police. Saint-Ruf left the police station around noon accompanied by Bruno Carotti, the sports director of MHSC. Saint-Ruf confirmed to authorities that Mbaye Niang was indeed the driver of the Ferrari, with himself as a passenger.
According to reports from Midi Libre, the prosecution may charge the former AC Milan player with several offenses, including endangering the lives of others, driving despite the cancellation of his driver’s license, and hit-and-run.
