Kylian Mbappe reached 100 goal contributions in the Champions League as Real Madrid played AEK Athens in the competition’s league phase.
The France forward scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the 78th minute at the Aya Sofya stadium on Wednesday, turning Denzel Dumfries’ low cross into an unguarded net.
According to Opta, Mbappe’s goal took his Champions League total to 74 goals and 26 assists across his appearances in the competition.
The 27-year-old is now the joint-second quickest player to record 100 goal contributions in the Champions League. He reached the landmark in 102 matches, matching the record of Robert Lewandowski, the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona striker.
Only Lionel Messi has achieved the milestone in fewer games. The Argentina great reached 100 Champions League goal contributions after 101 appearances.
Mbappe’s latest strike also extended another notable run. He has now scored in six successive Champions League matches, matching the longest scoring sequence of his career in the competition.
He previously found the net in six consecutive Champions League games for Paris Saint-Germain between November 2021 and September 2022.
The goal against AEK Athens was Mbappe’s first Champions League strike since joining Real Madrid, where he has continued to build on a record that already includes his time with Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid’s fixture in Greece was their fourth match of the league phase. Mbappe’s contribution came after Dumfries delivered the decisive ball from the right, allowing him to finish from close range into an empty goal.
The milestone places him alongside Lewandowski among the fastest players to reach a century of Champions League goals and assists, with Messi remaining the only player to have done so sooner.
