Maxime Lopez ready to join Algeria national team if called
Maxime Lopez, the talented midfielder for Paris FC, has publicly expressed his willingness to represent Algeria at the international level, marking a turning point after years of association with the French national team.
Lopez, 27, whose mother is Algerian and brother Julien once played for the French U17 squad, previously committed to France but recently changed his tune.
In an interview with Canal+, Lopez declared, “Of course, if I’m called by the Algerian national team, I’ll go! My mother is Algerian. Some may say I’m being opportunistic because of the Africa Cup of Nations or World Cup, but even in a season without those tournaments, I’d go. I’m a competitor—I want to play international football too!”
He explained his longstanding focus on France: “People say I’ve been talking about France for years, but that’s only because Algeria never contacted me. Recently, there was contact to check my status. If Algeria calls me, I’ll answer. We’ll see what happens next.”
Lopez’s openness has sparked hope among Algerian fans as the team seeks to strengthen its midfield for future competition.
